When Scott Henley and his son went scuba diving off the coast of south Florida recently, they did not guess that gold coins lay in wait for them on the seabed.
However, Mr Henley spotted something that looked like scrap metal while diving in shallow water, reports WPTV.
After scooping up the item, he was surprised to see it was actually a gold coin believed to have been minted in Mexico during the 1650s.
"This is a dream for me personally, diving off of here for so many years, to one day find a piece of history; happy to find a coin that I dream about," Mr Henley tells the news provider.
His honesty led him to report the find, allowing the coin to be returned to its rightful owner - treasure hunter Dominic Addario, who owns sal e rights to the area.
But Mr Addario was so grateful for Mr Henley's honesty that, after documenting the find, he allowed the coin to remain with the diver.
The news follows the discovery of 22 gold coins off Indian River County in Florida in early July, reported at the time by WPTV.
