2009 Niue Brilliant Uncirculated Coin Set

About the Design

This is the first ever brilliant uncirculated coin set from Niue. This tropical island is situated 2,200 km northeast of New Zealand. It is one of the world's largest emerged coral atolls, with an area of 269 sq. km. Niue is larger than the entire Cook's group of fifteen islands put together, yet it has a population of only 1,500 people. The local tourist industry aims to exhibit the islands natural wonders and develop its infrastructure, while protecting the land and local culture.

Each bronze coin in the Niue 2009 BU Coin Set features a Niuean icon on the reverse, such as the outrigger canoe or the Humpback Whale, along with the coins respective denomination.

The New Zealand Mint takes great pleasure in presenting this historic coin collection, brought to you with the endorsement of the Government of Niue Island.

Obverse

The obverse of each coin features the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, sovereign of the Commonwealth and Niue, along with the year of issue (2009) and each coins respective denomination.

Reverse

The reverse of each coin depicts a finely engraved icon of the island of Niue and the coins respective denomination. This is surrounded by an ornate border design.

Limited Mintage

No more than 20,000 of this unique coin set will be produced by New Zealand Mint.

Presentation

Each set is presented in a plastic display case to prevent damage to the coins. This is enclosed in a themed protective sleeve making it a perfect gift or addition to your collection.
