Following the popular 2009 Lunar Year of the Ox, New Zealand Mint is proud to present the 2010 Lunar Year of the Tiger 1oz Coloured Silver Coin. This features the Siberian, or Amur Tiger, the world’s largest cat. These animals live primarily in eastern Russia’s Birch forest, though some can also be found in China and North Korea. There are an estimated 400 to 500 Siberian Tigers living in the wild and recent studies suggest that these numbers are stable.
This features a powerful Siberian Tiger mid-stride as it runs through the snow in Northern Russia. The winter white background of snow clad ground and trees emphasizes the dynamic beauty and power of the Tiger. This image is surrounded by a classic border design and the engraved heading '2010 – Year of the Tiger'. The silver purity and weight is likewise engraved on this face.
The obverse of the coin features the Raphael Maklouf effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, sovereign of the Commonwealth and Pitcairn Island, along with the year of issue (2010) and the denomination of $2.
This beautiful coin comes uniquely packaged in a cylindrical box featuring a 3-dimensional tiger paw print in the snow on the lid. Each coin comes complete with a certificate of authenticity issued by New Zealand Mint.
