New Zealand Medallion Series - Te Papa

New Zealand is a place that combines beautiful native forests with endless beaches, snow clad mountain ranges and unique geothermal activity, all of which can now be taken home. The Medallion Series features iconic Kiwi landmarks, attractions, plants and birds that make New Zealand the unique place it is. Containing a stunning coloured medallion, the series also features beautiful images along with interesting facts and information.

About the Design

The Museum of New Zealand, Te Papa Tongarewa is located in the heart of Wellington, the capital of New Zealand. Literally meaning storage of precious things, the name Te Papa Tongarewa is made up of classical Maori expressions, traditionally used within poetry and song.

Te Papa’s purpose is one of interpreting the heritage of New Zealand for both national and international audiences through contextualizing it alongside that of other cultures. It is a forum or place of partnership between peoples where there is something for everyone to better understand the past, enrich the present and be better prepared for the future.

Te Papa is situated on the waterfront, overlooking the stunning Wellington harbour. To select a design for the building, an international competition was held with construction of the 36,000 square meter building commencing in 1994. After 4 years of construction, Te Papa with its bold architectural design was opened in 1998.

Since opening, the museum has continued to develop, presenting a diverse range of exhibitions every year, ranging from New Zealand art work through to public lectures and dance showcases.
