New Disney pure silver and gold coins feature iconic Mickey Mouse moments

Mickey Mouse in The Gallopin' Gaucho - gold and silver coins

The Mickey Through the Ages Coin Collection celebrates the much-loved Disney character Mickey Mouse and his cartoon career through the decades. For this fifth release NZ Mint have used a stirring image of Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse dancing the tango from The Gallopin Gaucho (1928).

The Gallopin' Gaucho, directed by Walt Disney, was the second silent Mickey Mouse cartoon produced, after Plane Crazy. When Walt chose to add sound to his cartoons, he selected his third production, Steamboat Willie, to be released on November 18, 1928 as his first sound cartoon, and then added sound to The Gallopin' Gaucho, which was released as his second cartoon with sound a month later on December 20, 1928.

Viewers with a keen eye may notice that the design of Mickey Mouse changes from the beginning of the film, in which he looks similar to his appearance in Plane Crazy, to the end of the film where he more closely resembles his Steamboat Willie self.

These Mickey Mouse – The Gallopin' Gaucho silver & gold coins come presented in a high-quality wooden inner coin case and themed outer packaging. While the 0.5 gram gold coin comes presented on an attractive, printed card.

Officially licensed, the coins have a limited worldwide mintage, so be quick and add one to your coin collection today!
