Revealed: new coin features the Battle of Waterloo

The Battle of Waterloo 1oz Silver Coin is the second coin to be released in our exciting new collection - Battles That Changed History – that highlight legendary battles that changed the course of history.

The battle took place in Belgium on 18 June, 1815. It ended the centuries old Anglo-French wars, the spectacular career of Napoleon Bonaparte, Emperor of France and ushered in almost half a century of international peace in Europe. So significant was the defeat of Napoleon that ever since when a seemingly unstoppable individual, force or movement is defeated, it is said to have "met its Waterloo."

This cleverly designed coin features a coloured illustration of Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, who commanded the victorious Anglo-Dutch force. He stands against an antique-finish background that shows the troops in battle.

The themed outer box features a black line art illustration of the battle imposed over an antiqued paper texture. Inside an antique-looking timber box opens to reveal the coin nestled in its black velvet interior with the uniquely numbered Certificate of Authenticity.

With a limited mintage of 5,000 coins – you might have to fight to get yours!
