Celebrating the 80th Anniversary of Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

NZ Mint is excited to confirm the release of two new coins to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of Disney’s animated feature film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The film was Walt Disney's first full-length animated feature film. It premiered in Hollywood on 21 December 1937 and, for a while after its release, the film was the highest-grossing motion picture of all time.

It tells the story of the kind and gentle princess, Snow White, who flees her jealous stepmother the Queen and befriends the lovable seven dwarfs — Doc, Sneezy, Grumpy, Happy, Bashful, Sleepy and Dopey. But when the Wicked Queen finds Snow White and tricks her with an enchanted apple, only the magic of true love's first kiss can save her.

The film featured such classic songs as “Some Day My Prince Will Come,” “Heigh-Ho,” and “Whistle While You Work.” More than 750 artists worked on the film, which took three years to produce. At the 11th annual Academy Awards® ceremony, Walt Disney was presented with an honorary Academy Award® for Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, consisting of one full-size Oscar® along with seven “dwarf” statuettes!

The 1oz fine silver coin features an early illustration of key characters from the film while the ¼oz gold coin shows Snow White with two of the lovable dwarfs. Both coins are presented charmingly themed boxes which incorporate memorable images from the film. Inside the silver coin is nestled within a stunning red circular commemorative box, while the gold coin sits inside a high-quality timber display case. Each coin comes with an individually numbered Certificate of Authenticity.

With only 10,000 silver coins and 1,000 gold coins available, you will need to get in quick to secure your memento.
