Limited edition Star Wars The Return of the Jedi poster on a unique 1oz silver coin

In May 1983, Return of the Jedi marked the end of the original Star Wars trilogy, and with it, an incredible era of effects innovation in film. The movie wrapped up all the story threads previously set in motion — Luke’s journey to become a Jedi, the Rebellion’s struggle against the Empire, and the redemption of Darth Vader — and did so amidst a backdrop of stunning visuals, thrilling action, and lots of strange creatures.

The release of the third limited edition Star Wars poster rectangular coin celebrates this final instalment. Interestingly the first teaser trailer from 1982 features the movie's original title Revenge of the Jedi. George Lucas opted to change the name, noting that revenge is not the Jedi way. The subsequent trailer focused heavily on the idea of "return," with the narrator opening the preview by saying, "Return to a galaxy far, far away," and later, "Return to heroic adventure," and "Return to the ultimate confrontation."

Commercially, the film was a monster success, breaking single day and opening weekend records with ease and catapulting the film swiftly up the all-time charts. At the 56th Academy Awards® in 1984, Richard Edlund, Dennis Muren, Ken Ralston, and Phil Tippett received a Special Achievement Award for Visual Effects.

In celebration of this film and its achievements, this 1oz fine silver collectible coin has been officially licensed by Disney. Its striking design incorporates both colour and engraving. The coin is also cleverly presented in a perspex holder designed to frame the coin and allow for easy display. The serialised Certificate of Authenticity sits within the packaging, and both are Star Wars themed to complement the coin. Don’t miss out on adding this one to your collection!
