Superman's first self-titled comic book series is now immortalised. First issue commemorated on Pure Silver Foil.

We are thrilled to announce the second release in our DC Comics Pure Silver Foil collection – Superman #1! Made from 35g fine silver, this second release features Superman in his first self-titled comic book from 1939, the first for any super hero.

The first issue of the original run of the Superman comic book series was an anthology that contained five features — with the most notable being the debut of Superman, and his love interest Lois Lane, reprinted from Action Comics #1. Written by Jerry Siegel and illustrated by Joe Shuster, the 13-page story opens with Superman's crash-landing on Earth and goes on to show him saving an innocent woman from the electric chair, stopping a man from beating his wife and going on a date with (and later rescuing) Lois. This Man of Steel captured the hearts of millions and went on to become the world's most iconic super hero, spawning a regular ongoing self-titled series!

Although originally released as a stand-alone ‘one-shot’ with no numbering on the issue, Superman #1 sold so well beyond expectations that it was quickly converted into an ongoing series. Though not as unobtainable as Action Comics #1, this issue is hard to come by in today’s market, with only 52 copies graded by CGC and 82 restored copies in existence. This makes it amongst one of the most valuable comic books worldwide, next to Action Comics #1 and Detective Comics #27.

This 35g fine silver collectible incorporates both colour and engraving and is presented in a sturdy acrylic holder, designed to frame the foil and allow for easy display. Packaged inside a complementary themed carrier, this makes the ultimate gift for any DC Comics, Super Hero or Superman fan.

With original copies becoming more difficult to find, don’t delay in placing your order before they go fast!
