Schooled in Cruel

The eccentric but fashionable Cruella De Vil struts her stuff on the third release in our Disney Villains Coin Collection. The devilish villain made her debut in the 1961 Disney animated feature, One Hundred and One Dalmatians.

Released on video for the first time in 1992, One Hundred and One Dalmatians was the first feature to solely use the Xerox process to transfer the animators’ original drawings to cels. In previous releases of the film, each drawing had to be hand traced in ink onto a cel, an incredibly time-consuming process.

Cruella was voiced by Betty Lou Gerson and is remembered for her unique name, extravagance and obsession with fur. She ranked 39th in the villains category of the American Film Institute’s “100 Years…100 Heroes and Villains”, a list which ranks the one-hundred greatest screen characters. The character was portrayed by actress Glenn Close in the 1996 live-action adaptation, 101 Dalmatians.

This stylish 1oz silver coin illustrates the devilish fashionista in full colour against an engraved background, accompanied by the phrase “I don’t haunt, I flaunt”.

The coin is delivered in a delightful fairy-tale book-style packaging with a design that is in keeping with the chilling Disney Villains theme. Printed alongside the coin is the Certificate of Authenticity.

A bewitching addition to any Disney fan collection, be one of 10,000 collectors worldwide to own this piece of Disney magic.
