Dinosaurs – Brontosaurus 1oz Silver Coin
The beloved Brontosaurus features on this next release in our Dinosaur Coin Collection. One of the most recognised of dinosaurs, this giant was in fact a harmless herbivore!
Brontosaurus was a large, long-necked, quadrupedal animal with a long, whip-like tail, and fore limbs that were slightly shorter than its hind limbs. The largest species weighed up to 15 tonnes and measured up to 22 metres long from head to tail.
The name Brontosaurus comes from Greek words ‘bronte’ meaning thunder and ‘sauros’ meaning lizard. Computer modelling of the dinosaur’s tail suggested that it was capable of producing a whip-like cracking sound of over 200 decibels, comparable to the volume of a cannon – or even perhaps thunder!
The reverse of this 1oz pure silver coin shows the Brontosaurus, head held high, in full colour against an engraved prehistoric landscape. The coin has been antiqued to suit the historic theme. The obverse features the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II with the coin being legal tender in Niue.
A numbered Certificate of Authenticity is included confirming the worldwide limit of only 2,000 coins. This is placed with the coin inside a quality case and Brontosaurus-themed outer box. With this dinosaur being such a darling we suggest you grab one for your collection soon!
