COMIX™ Coins are back! These two are made of 1oz and 2oz pure silver and feature the cover of the Batman #1 comic, published in March 1940. It is the first comic exclusively dedicated to the mighty Caped Crusader.
One of the most famous comics of the Golden Age, featuring one of the most iconic covers, Batman #1 was notable not only for introducing two of his most formidable antagonists, THE JOKER™ and CATWOMAN™ (here referred to as “the Cat”) but for a story in which BATMAN™ used a machine gun to shoot monsters. That story prompted editor Whitney Ellsworth to decree that BATMAN would no longer kill or use a gun—a crucial tenet of who BATMAN is that remains a part of his persona today.
The coins have been crafted into a rectangular shape and display a coloured image of the comic cover. The 1oz is uniquely coloured on all four sides to represent the spine and pages, while the 2oz has a shiny mirror-finish border. On the obverse is the Public Seal of Niue to confirm the coins as legal tender and an engraving of a turning page to further give the comic book style.
Each piece is tucked inside black velvet and held in a custom-designed outer box with a large window to ensure you can easily showcase it. Printed on the back of the box is a Certificate of Authenticity and the coin’s unique number in its limited mintage - 5,000 for the 1oz and 1,000 for the 2oz.
