Disney’s Cinderella is quite possibly one of the most loved Disney films ever made. This 1950 animated feature is the famous rags-to-riches tale of the courageous and kind Cinderella. During its original release in 1950, the public made the film one of the highest grossing films of the year, and Disney’s most successful release since Bambi. Because of wartime economic problems, it wasn’t until the end of the 1940s that Walt Disney was able to put together the financing for another full feature telling a single story. It was a gamble for Disney, and if it had been unsuccessful, it probably would have sounded the death knell for animation at the Studio. But, thankfully, its resounding success ensured that animation would continue!
The 1oz of pure silver used in this coin has been shaped and coloured to represent Cinderella. Shown dressed for the ball, she looks every inch a princess! With the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II found on the opposite side, this is a very royal coin indeed!
