Today we introduce a new Chibi® Coin Series for the 1992 Mortal Kombat video game. We begin the series with the mascot of the game, a deadly resurrected ninja, Scorpion!
One of the original characters to make his debut in the first Mortal Kombat arcade game, along with Raiden and Sub-Zero, he has the distinction of appearing in nearly every generation of Mortal Kombat games as a playable character.
The character's backstory establishes him as Hanzo Hasashi, a warrior from the fictional Shirai Ryu clan. Given the name Scorpion for his blindingly fast and deadly fighting skill, his life was blessed with glorious kombat in the name of his Grand Master. But when he, his family, and his clan were brutally exterminated by Sub-Zero and the Lin Kuei, Scorpion’s existence became eternal torment. Resurrected by the malevolent necromancer Quan Chi, he entered the Mortal Kombat tournament to slay Sub-Zero and avenge the murders of his kin.
As a Chibi art version, the focus is on his distinctive yellow tunic and mask, with contrasting black headgear. The Ian Rank Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II can be found on the opposite side to confirm it as a legal tender coin.
To further enhance this unique collectible, it is housed inside a specially designed Mortal Kombat-themed box. This includes a classic image of Scorpion on the reverse and the game logo and all seven original characters on both sides.
Created in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, there are only 2,000 for sale worldwide, so don’t miss out on this first Chibi Coin in the Mortal Kombat Series. It will be one cool collection for anyone who grew up playing Mortal Kombat.
