It is widely held that Showcase #4 didn't just introduce the modern version of THE FLASH - the issue may have saved the entire comic book industry from impending collapse. Before Julius Schwartz re-designed the Fastest Man Alive, Super Heroes were an afterthought in post-war comic books. Showcase #4 made a strong impression on readers as the story resonated on multiple levels.
Back in the day, it sold for 10 cents, but now because of its rarity and importance, the value of Showcase #4 can run anywhere from a few thousand dollars to over $100,000. The record sale is $180,000 for the only known CGC 9.6 copy.
Officially licensed, this coin features the cover of Showcase #4 from October 1956. To replicate the comic book, the coin has been crafted into a rectangular shape and is uniquely coloured on all four sides to mimic the spine and pages! On the obverse is the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ll to confirm the coin is legal tender. Along with an engraved detail of a turning page, to further give the comic book style.
This coin is tucked inside black velvet and held in a custom-designed outer box with a large window to ensure you can easily showcase it. Printed on the back of the box is a Certificate of Authenticity and the coin’s unique number in the limited mintage of 5,000.
