To celebrate the 75th anniversary of Disney’s iconic character, Scrooge McDuck, it was only fitting to release pure silver and gold coins for this money-loving miser!
Scrooge McDuck was created by Carl Barks in a 1947 comic book story, “Christmas on Bear Mountain,” and soon starred in his own comic series. He went on to star in the films Scrooge McDuck and Money and Mickey’s Christmas Carol, and the television series, Ducktales.
Scrooge is the richest duck in the world, an achievement he credits to having been "smarter than the smarties, tougher than the toughies, and making it square." Scrooge's money is not only a symbol of his frugality, but also his resilience and industriousness. As such, he prides his fortune to the point of being an avaricious tightwad, though he is honourable at his core.
The 3oz silver and 1oz silver coins showcase Scrooge McDuck in full colour, wearing his stately attire and holding his beloved money. Behind him is a full treasure chest with money scattered around. This is offset wonderfully by a mirror-finish background and frosted border. Some relief has also been added for a 3D effect.
The 1/4oz gold coin is fully engraved and displays a close-up image of Scrooge McDuck, which stands out beautifully against the mirror background. Some relief and texture, using sandblasting, has also been added to enhance the design.
To confirm the coins as legal tender, the effigy of Queen Elizabeth ll is engraved on the obverse. All have limited worldwide mintages, 1,000 for the 3oz silver, 1,947 for the 1oz silver (reflecting the year of his first appearance!) and only 250 for the 1/4oz gold. These will be tougher than the toughies to get your hands on!
Each memento is held in a special edition 75th anniversary-themed box, featuring iconic quotes and imagery of the epic Disney character. The gold coin comes with its own quality display case. A Certificate of Authenticity and the coin’s unique number in the mintage are also provided.
