Next in the coin series, Cinema Masterpieces, is Disney’s 1994 classic, The Lion King. The film won two Academy Awards and holds the record as the highest-grossing traditionally animated film in history. With such a wealth of incredible scenes to choose from, we needed a 3oz coin with a generous 60mm diameter to do it justice!
Officially licensed, this gleaming pure silver coin features a coloured image of Mufasa, Sarabi, and baby Simba, cradled in her arms. Along the bottom of the coin, a supporting montage of animation can be seen in the engraved and mirrored silver film roll. On the obverse of the coin is the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, confirming it as legal tender.
The film itself follows the lion prince, Simba, who flees his homeland after the loss of his father. Years later, after an encounter with his childhood friend Nala, Simba must journey back home and face his villainous uncle, Scar, in order to take his rightful place as the king of the Pride Lands.
Each coin is protected in an acrylic capsule, placed inside a custom-designed box that includes delightful images of Simba. At the back of the box, you will find the Certificate of Authenticity, which further confirms the coins legal tender status and the coin’s unique number in the limited mintage of 2,000 coins.
