Celebrating another milestone in Disney animation with Three Little Pigs from 1932

Today we have added another unique, Disney Poster rectangular coin to our Disney collectible coin range. This coin features the Silly Symphony cartoon Three Little Pigs, released on 27 May 1932.

Earning an Academy Award® for Best Cartoon at the 6th Academy Awards® in 1934, it was based on the original fable of the same name -- although slightly softened as in Disney's version Fiddler Pig, Fifer Pig, Practical Pig and the wolf live to tell the tale. When released, it resonated with Depression-weary audiences who embraced the theme song, “Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?”.

The cartoon proved to be another milestone of Disney animation in the scope of characterization, as well as in score and song, with Walt Disney achieving his desire that “These little pigs…will be more like human characters.” So popular was the cartoon that it often proved to be a greater draw in the cinemas than the feature films it was supposed to be supporting!

In 2007, Three Little Pigs was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry. This is a registry of films deemed "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant" by the Library of Congress. These films are selected for their enduring importance to American culture.

The Three Little Pigs 1oz Silver Coin comes presented in a clever perspex case, designed to frame the coin and allow for easy display. The Certificate of Authenticity also sits within the outer box and both items have been designed to complement the coin design. This makes it a great purchase for any Disney fan or coin collector.

With a limited worldwide mintage of 10,000 coins, be quick to celebrate another one of Disney's vintage cartoons!
